We use THIS if the replaced nouns is singular and near in distance or THAT if it is singular and far in distance.

  • This/That is a book. - Questo/Quello è un libro.
  • What is this/that? - Che cos'è questo/quello?
  • Look at this/that! - Guarda questo/quello!
