Personal pronouns

A personal pronoun can be either subject or object in a sentence.

Notes

We use subject pronouns as the subject of a verb, object pronouns as the object of a verb and reflexive pronouns when the subject and the object of a sentence are the same.

Subject pronouns

We use subject pronouns as the subject of a verb. Subject pronouns are:

I

YOU

HE - SHE - IT

WE

YOU 

THEY

Examples: 

  • I am tired.
  • It is a cat.
  • She is very nice!

We use IT when it doesn’t refer to anything in particular:

  • It is cold.
  • It is late.

Object pronouns

We use object pronouns as the object of a verb and after prepositions.

Examples:

  • I know her.
  • I like it.
  • I want them.
  • Give it to me!

Reflexive pronouns

We use reflexive pronouns when the subject and the object of a sentence are the same.

Examples:

  • I'll do it myself.
  • Enjoy yourselves.
  • I am by myself tonight.
  • Behave yourself! - Comportati bene.
