Decimal fractions

Fractions have a numerator and a denominator. When the denominator is 10, the fraction is a decimal fraction.

Decimal fractions have 10, 100 or 1000 as a denominator. When the whole is a power of 10, you have special fractions: you can write them as decimal numbers.

£$ \dfrac{1}{10} = 0{.}1 = $£ one tenth

£$ \dfrac{4}{100} = 0{.}04 = $£ four hundredths

£$ \dfrac{3}{1000} = 0{.}003 = $£ three thousandths
