Order of adjectives

Do you know what is the correct order of adjectives in English

When you use more than one adjective of quality at one time, you have to follow this adjectives order:

  1. Quantity or number (One, two, three...)
  2. Quality or opinion (Pretty, horrible, perfect...)
  3. Size (Big, little, small...)
  4. Age (Old, young, new...)
  5. Shape (Round, square, triangular...)
  6. Colour (Red, blue, green...)
  7. Nationality, origin, or material (Italian, french, silk...)
  8. Purpose (School, writing, work...)

 

Here you can find some examples of sentences:

  • A wonderful old italian clock. (Opinion - Age - Origin)
  • A big square blue box. (Size - Shape - Colour)
  • I have a pair of black leather shoes. (Colour - Material)
